Reeperbahn Festival 2022 | Hamburg

For the third installment of '(IN) BETWEEN', an exhibiton that highlights visual design within the field of music, Bareis + Nicolaus invited designers and artists from all over the world to submit their digital music covers. These covers were not limited to any genres but were supposed to be designed and released between 01.01.2020 – 31.08.2022. To exhibit this wide array of artworks, we decided to work with 24 digital screens to let the spectators immerse in a room filled with randomly sized versions of the artwork. By programming the animations in a generative manner, the subdivisions, sizing, transitions and selection of the artwoks followed a set of rules that allowed a random order. No arrangement looked the same, filling roughly 22.000 x 6.000 pixels with over 400 artworks in realtime. A live input mirrored on all screens was used for the panel discussion by the »Heart Directors Club« with Golnar Kat Rahmani and Simon Wahlers on political / critical design.
